Thank you for a wonderful District Chorus weekend. Both choirs sounded absolutely magnificent and I know that the guest conductors were very pleased with the students' performance. Thank you also parents for helping out by driving students, helping with All-State Chorus auditions, and for continuing to support your sons and daughters in their musical activities.

I am pleased to announce that we had eleven Annandale students selected for All-State Chorus as well as five alternates! This was truly an outstanding showing and has broken my previous record! I'm sure it will be one of the highest, if not the highest total in the entire state. The AHS students selected for All-State Chorus are: Whitney Akridge, Hanna Navarrete, Caroline Dunleavy, Tess Carter, Jane Rabinovitz, Glenda Ngo, Vinh Ngo, Joel Waters, Jose Jimenez, Michael Pion, and Daren Lopez Villanueva. Alternates: Rebecca Pelkey, John Odom, Michael Lazar, Daniel Loo, and Chris Fuller. Congratulations to you all for this incredible achievement. (2/17/09)

2008-2009 District Chorus (PDF) Congratulations to the 60 students selected for the 2008-09 District Chorus.  I was very proud of my students for their beautiful singing and for their patience!  AHS had 45 students selected for the SATB choir and 15 for the SSA choir. The SATB Choir, made up of girls, grades 11-12 and boys, grades 9-12, will be conducted by Dr. Eugene Rogers. The SSA Choir, made up of girls, grades 9-10, will be conducted by Dr. Heather Eyerly. District Chorus weekend is February 12-14 at West Potomac High School. More details will follow at a later time. The students listed in the attachment are arranged alphabetically by voice part, not by score. However, we had several AHS students who had extremely high scores (over 190 out of 200). These students are Whitney Akridge, Caroline Dunleavy, Anne Hruskoci, Jose Jimenez, and Daren Lopez Villanueva. All AHS students performed well and represented their school in a wonderful way.  Whether they were selected for District Chorus or not, I hope they learned from this experience. I am proud of all of them! (11/08)

2006 Choral Department Spring Trip to Boston. All groups participating received a "first place" award. In addition, Men's Chorale, Annandale Singers, and Women's Ensemble received gold, or superior, ratings (average score of the three judges was between 90-100). The Concert Choir received a silver rating (between 80-89). The average score for the Concert Choir was 89 (judges' scores were 87, 89, and 91). We received the highest score of all Concert Choirs at the festival. Other average scores were Annandale Singers: 95; Men's Chorale: 92; Women's Ensemble: 91.5. The Adjudicator's Award was given to the choir receiving the highest score in a particular division. We were in the "3A" division which is based on school population (1000 and above). In that category the Annandale Singers received the highest score of all choirs present at the festival. The Choral Grand Championship Award is given to the Choral Department with the two highest scores averaged together, regardless of classification. i.e., 2A or 3A.

We had the two highest scores of all choral groups at the festival. And finally, the "Festival of Gold" invitation for next year is given to the 1st place winners who receive a superior, or gold, ranking; therefore, Women's Ensemble, Annandale Singers, and Men's Chorale have been invited to participate in this prestigious event. I hope we will be able to accept the invitation. The concert date is not yet announced so I will let you know if we are able to work it out. Since New York will probably be our trip destination next year it would be wonderful if we were able accept the invitation to participate in the New York Festival of Gold.
