Volunteers are needed!
The Boosters is made up of the families of the choral students and is dedicated to supporting the Choral Department.
Standing Committees for 2009-2010
(Click here for a list of current committee chairs and their contact information.)
Committee members help the Chair plan this major event. Jobs include ticket sales, soliciting donations of food, organizing food and beverage service for each performance, arrangements at the facility before performances, clean-up after and many other tasks.
Four car washes are held during the year at local gas stations. Volunteers are needed to supervise the students, collect money and dirty towels. Volunteers also wash the towels after the car wash.
Fall Exchange (Hosting the German Choir). Volunteers help locate housing for 40 students and 5 chaperones, plan activities, and coordinate transportation.
Spring/Summer Exchange (Organizing the Trip to Europe) . Annandale Choir (made up of alumni and current students) will travel to Germany during the last two weeks of June. The committee needs volunteers to help plan all aspects of the trip, from making travel arrangements to planning the itinerary (which includes performances), dealing with vendors involved, issuing notices to students and parents, collecting payments, distributing and collecting the various permission forms required, conducting a mandatory meeting for students and parents, planning for departure day and many other tasks.
The committee arranges for refreshments at certain meetings, concessions during concert intermissions and All-State Chorus auditions hosted at AHS, and the reception at the Spring Recital. The chair needs a number of volunteers to help with the various events and one or two assistants to call volunteers as each event approaches.
The editor collects inputs from Ms. Dixon, the officers and committee chairs, assembles them into newsletter format, and oversees the duplicating, addressing, and mailing of five to six newsletters during the course of the school year. Committee members can help with many aspects of the job, at the editor's discretion. The CB secretary provides mailing labels.
The chair prepares press releases for local media. Volunteers are needed to serve as liaison with the various civic association newsletters. At times, there is a need to deliver publicity items to feeder elementary and middle schools, to make signs and posters and to place signs and posters in business and civic locations throughout the community.
The committee needs volunteers to help plan all aspects of the trip, from contracting with a bus company to planning the itinerary (which includes performances by all choral groups), dealing with vendors involved, issuing notices to students and parents, collecting payments, distributing and collecting the various permission forms required, conducting a mandatory meeting for students and parents, planning for departure day and other tasks.
The chair needs many people willing to drive students to and from performances or rehearsals, and the committee needs two or three people to recruit volunteer drivers about the specific events.
This committee is responsible for managing the choral department's inventory of about 200 costumes, including initial purchase, periodic replacement, fittings, issuing costumes to individual students; maintaining the file of signed costume contracts; etc. There is a Wardrobe Management Coordinator for each choral group: There is also a Sewing Pool of volunteers willing to do the occasional hemming or mending of costumes in the inventory, as well as the construction of some new costumes, primarily for Annandale Singers Rennaissance garb.
The web page provides information on AHS choral department activities, including a calendar of events, and locations of the events. The web page also provides a wonderful opportunity for the students and their families, as well as members of the community, to learn about the choral department through photos, audio recordings, news items, descriptions of the various performances and activities, and information on awards and honors received by the program and its students. It also provides information on how to contact the Choral Director and Choral Booster officers and committee chairs.
****Can you sew on a button? hem a skirt? Volunteers will be needed in the fall and throughout the year to help with maintaining costumes. If you can help, contact Linda Beste at singbeste@cox.net.
