Aldrin
Adventure Day
Aldrin Adventure Day is a day where
students are able to participate outside in many different
"adventures" and activities with their class. Before this
day, we need to prepare by learning and participating safely
in all Adventure Day games and activities while cooperating
in small groups. Students will also be utilizing problem
solving techniques to achieve a common goal and incorporating
previously taught skills while performing these games and
activities. Some games that we will be working on are sling
shots, parachute, islands, capture the flag, builders and
bulldozers, ice cream cones, boardwalkers, hidden treasures,
and junkyard. We hope to provide an opportunity for the
students to work together as a group to be physically active
and to have a good time.

Basketball
Basketball is a unit that is completed
by third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students. The younger
students work on a "ball handling" unit. During the basketball
unit, the students demonstrate the basketball dribble with
their dominant and non-dominant hand while remaining stationary
and traveling. Students will also identify the basketball
bounce pass and chest pass and demonstrate these skills
using proper technique to a partner. Furthermore, our students
will demonstrate proper basketball technique and then incorporate
these basketball skills while participating in various basketball
lead-up activities and modified 3 Vs 3 games.

about fitness and conditioning. Students in grades one and
two will participate in fitness activities that emphasize
the five physical fitness components of cardiovascular endurance,
flexibility, muscular endurance, muscular strength, and
agility. They will also learn more about pulse and heart
rate. Third grade will be performing similar activities;
however, they will also be introduced to the Presidential
Physical Fitness Challenges of the shuttle run, mile run,
v-sit, pull-ups, and one minute curl-ups. Fourth through
sixth grade will participate in these tests as well and
have the opportunity to earn a presidential or a national
fitness patch.

Gymnastics
First and second grade students will
be working on various movement skills such as animal walks,
simple stunt challenges, and rolls. Students will be introduced
to the various tumbling positions and some lead-up balancing
skills.
Third and fourth grade students will
now incorporate the various tumbling positions into a variety
of rolls. They will also be challenged with new inverted
positions and balance skills.
Fifth and sixth grade students will
be performing similar tumbling skills, but they will be
progressively challenging. Students will be performing their
own original routines using a combination of these skills.
All students will experience various
movements on the parallel bars and balance beam using the
gymnastic components of balance, strength, and flexibility.
They will also enhance their strength by performing rope
challenges and rope climbing skills.

Movement
Exploration
Our movement exploration unit is
done with all kindergarten, first, and second grade students.
During this unit, the students will be able to demonstrate
the concepts of body awareness in their own personal space
by exploring the different shapes, numbers, and letters
their bodies can make both individually and with a partner.
Students will also move safely at different levels, directions,
pathways, speeds, and forces in their own general space.
They will then be given the opportunity to explore various
locomotor and non-locomotor movements by participating in
various simple games and activities to help stimulate creativity
and improve locomotor skills.

Volleyball
All grades will be introduced to
the basic skills of volleyball: the serve, the bump, and
the set. By using the sequential holistic approach, modifications
will be taken into consideration with equipment and activities
to remain developmentally appropriate. For example, primary
grades will explore their skills using a balloon, the third
and fourth graders will use volley "floaters," and the fifth
and sixth graders will use more of the official size and
weight volleyballs. We will play lead-up games including
the Aldrin favorite, Junkyard, and the fifth and sixth graders
will learn more about scoring and rotations.
