Adult Identification

All parents and visitors must sign in at the main office and wear a badge or visitor sticker at all times while in the building

Backpacks

Children will need a backpack or tote bag that is large enough to carry home library books, lunch boxes if applicable, and artwork. Please label the backpack with your child's name.

Bibs

Please send a bib if you wish your child to use one at lunchtime. We will send home soiled bibs to be laundered.

Birthdays

If you would like to celebrate your child's birthday at school, please contact your child's teacher to make arrangements.

Clothing

Children should wear play clothes since many of our activities are messy. Shoes should be appropriate for outdoor activities.

Please send in an extra set of clothing, including socks, underwear, shirt and pants, or dress. Be sure to label your child's clothing. When wet or soiled clothes are sent home, please remember to replenish your child's supply of extra clothes at school.

Diapers

Diapers, diaper wipes and disposable plastic bags should be sent in for children who are not toilet trained. Extra training pants and underwear should be sent in for those who are being toilet trained.

Illness

Please call the preschool office (703-904-3827) or the main office (703-904-3800) if your child is going to be absent from school. If there is any question whether or not your child is ill, please do not send him/her to school. If your child has a fever or diarrhea, he/she may not attend school. It is school policy that children be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school. Some of our children are extremely susceptible to illness, and we would like to keep exposure to a minimum. If your child becomes ill during the class day, the teacher or clinic aide will call you immediately. If you cannot be reached, the people listed on your Emergency Care Card will be called. Please keep your Emergency Care Card up to date.

Lunch

The A.M. Classes eat lunch Tuesday thru Friday; lunch is not served on Mondays to the A.M. classes. The P.M. Classes and the PAC Classes eat lunch Monday thru Friday. Your child may bring his/her own lunch or purchase a school lunch. Your child may purchase milk only as well. The cost of a complete lunch including milk is $2.15. The price of white and chocolate milk is $.50. Soy milk ($0.75) and juice ($0.65) are only available for children with a milk intolerance/allergy and a doctor's note must be on file. Lunch tickets may be purchased for several lunches at a time by sending a check for the exact amount. The checks should be made out to Buzz Aldrin Food Services.

To help compute lunch ticket costs:

10 tickets $21.50
15 tickets $32.25
20 tickets $43.00
25 tickets $53.75
30 tickets $64.50

Fairfax County School Regulations do not permit us to have microwave ovens in our classrooms. We will not be able to heat your child's food at school.

Notebooks

Send in a notebook (composition or spiral). This notebook will be used to send notes between home and school.

Snacks

There will be a $5.00 monthly charge for snacks. If you would like to pay for the entire school year, the cost is $45.00 or $22.50 each semester. This covers special meals prepared by the children, as well as juice and snack. Snack checks must be separate from lunch checks. The check should be made out to: Buzz Aldrin Elementary School.

If your child has food allergies, please contact your child's teacher regarding participation in the snack fund.

If your child is in the PAC class, please contact the teacher regarding snacks.

Tissues

Please send in large boxes of tissues

Transportation

The Transportation Office has requested that parents not call them directly. If you have any questions or concerns regarding transportation, or need to make any changes in the pick-up or drop-off location, please notify your child’s teacher. The preschool staff will then contact transportation

It generally takes 3-5 days to make changes in the pick-up or drop-off location.

Note: Please don't forget to label all your child’s belongings!

We are looking forward to a great year!
